About Bayanaul National Park

Established in 1985, Bayanaul National Park covers a unique area of the Kazakh Uplands featuring ancient granite peaks that rise sharply from the surrounding steppes. The park encompasses a diverse landscape of rocky mountains, turquoise lakes, and diverse flora and fauna representative of the semi-arid region. The park's geology traces back over a billion years, making it one of the oldest mountain systems in Kazakhstan. Visitors can explore over 40 named peaks, with the highest point being Akbet Mountain at approximately 1,029 meters (3,376 feet). The park holds significant cultural importance as well, with numerous ancient petroglyphs and traditional Kazakh legends tied to the natural formations. Key recreational activities include hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, camping, and fishing in the park's clear lakes such as Sabyndykol and Zhasybai. The park also serves as a habitat for several rare and endemic species including the steppe marmot, argali sheep, and diverse birdlife. Bayanaul National Park attracts both nature lovers and adventure seekers with its blend of natural beauty, rugged terrain, and heritage sites. Facilities in and around the park support eco-tourism with guided tours, visitor centers, and designated campgrounds. The park’s environment remains largely pristine, offering a tranquil escape and panoramic vistas of the Central Asian landscape.
